ViaRio is the concessionaire responsible for the operation and administration of the Transolympic Connection, an expressway that will connect the West Zone (Barra da Tijuca) to the North Zone (Deodoro) of Rio de Janeiro. The road will connect the largest 2016 Olympic Games installations, such as the Athletes' Village, Olympic Park and Radical Park.
A rodovia terá duas pistas com três faixas para veículos, sendo uma exclusiva para o corredor de ônibus, o Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), com capacidade para transportar 100 mil pessoas por dia.
With ViaRio, the time spent along the 12-km route will be reduced from two hours to just 30 minutes, freeing up traffic in eight neighborhoods. A total of 53,600 cars are expected to travel the stretch each day.
The new road, the result of a R$ 1.55-billion investment, will join Transcarioca and Transoeste, in addition to facilitating the integration with the SuperVia trains at the Deodoro station.
The construction of bridges and viaducts will add another 30 interventions, the most important being the opening of a tunnel, to extend 1.8 km, which will be drilled through the Pedra Branca Solid Rock Formation.
