The Odebrecht Foundation is a private non-profit charitable institution maintained by the Odebrecht Group.
Its mission is to be an administrator of funds for social and environmental sustainability and implement - in the Pratigi Environmental Protection Area - a model of agricultural, ecological and sustainable tourism: Agroecotourism.
The foundation created the Bahia Baixo Sul Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Integrated and Sustainable Development Program (PDIS), which has assumed the challenge of turning a rural area with important environmental heritage into a prosperous and dynamic region, helping talented youth get established in the field.
The set of actions prompted by the Odebrecht Foundation is concentrated in the Bahia Southern Lowlands, formed by 15 municipalities located in the Eastern part of the state and home to 360,000 people.
The natural wealth and agricultural potential run up against poverty and illiteracy that limit development. To reverse this scenario, organized civil society joined forces with the federal, state and municipal governments, private initiative and the Odebrecht Foundation, forming an innovative Governance system, where the first, second and third sectors work in an integrated and synergic fashion to promote social inclusion.
